Getting back into the kitchen

I've been out of the kitchen for awhile but now it's time to get back to it. Stocked up on some cute Halloween sprinkles and could not wait to use them. My favorite has to be the silver jimmies (I'll have to get a better picture).

While shopping today, I found candy pumpkins and thought they would be cute on some grass.

That's it for now. I'll be busy the next 2 weeks prepping for Sydney's 4th Birthday party. We've gone through several themes but I think we finally have picked what we want. Now to start baking.

Bridie Cookies

Sydney and I were online one day looking for something to do and we fond these cool Birdie Cookies. We made a few adjustments, like skipping the poured sugar, and went to work.

Sydney help with cutting out the birdie shapes.

We used a leaf shaped cookie cutter for the bird and a star cutters for the beaks.

We cut the tips off of the stars and stuck them to the leaf shape to make the bird beak. Next step attach them to the cookies.

Add an eye and some feet with icing and here they are. Cute little birdie cookies.

"It's OK. Captain Hammer will save us."

I recently got together with a few co-workers to have a Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Lunch.

"What's that?" you ask. Actually we sat in a conference room and watched Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog while we ate lunch.

You don't know about Dr. Horrible? Take a look here or here for information and find some way to watch it. It's very entertaining, at least I think so.

Anyway, my contribution to this little get together was cake.

Chocolate cake with chocolate icing. The Captain Hammer logo was fondant. It was a hit and I was happy with the way it turned out.

"Oh, goodness, look at my wrist. I gotta go."

Chocolate Heaven Part II

Went back to Antoine Amrani Chocolates for another cake class. His chocolate is amazing! They also hold factory tours, classes for kids & adults, and they hold chocolate & wine tastings. Check it out and see for yourself!

We made a chocolate caramel mousse cake. It was just as much fun the second time around. Now maybe I can try to make it at home.

Bathing Beauties

Mental note to self - don't use the store brand cookie dough to roll out. It's too hard and crumbles, next time I'll stick with Pillsbury or homemade.

That being said I did manage to get 8 sugar cookie people (could have gotten more but it was late and I was tired of fighting with the dough...). Mixed up some icing and got started.

Bathing suits seemed appropriate for the season. Here's what I ended up with. Pretty cute, I think.

Boy, someone needs to work on their tan ;-)
